3S-CS-MB

As part of Seven Sensor Solutions’ ongoing commitment to innovation and development, a new innovative sensor has been launched! Seven Cloud system (3S-CS-MB).

While heavy cloud cover can significantly reduce solar panel power production. Studies have observed up to a 66.75% decrease in power output under dense cloud conditions compared to clear skies, which makes the cloud a vital parameter that affects the efficiency of the PV panels; thus, we developed our cloud sensor mainly to measure the Cloud Ratio.

Description

Seven Cloud Sensor (3S-CS-MB)

  • Purpose: Measures cloud ratio to assess cloud impact on solar panel energy production, improving efficiency in PV systems, especially Tracker Systems.

  • Working Principle:

    • Contains two irradiance sensors:

      • One permanently shaded with a shading band to measure diffuse irradiance according to IEC 61724.

      • One fully exposed to sunlight to measure Plane of Array (POA) irradiance.

    • Cloudiness ratio is calculated from the ratio of these two irradiance measurements.

  • Advantages:

    • Determines whether panels should stay fixed or track the sun.

    • Reduces unnecessary tracker movement on cloudy days.

    • Optimizes energy output under low direct irradiance conditions.

    • Designed specifically for Tracker Solar Energy Systems.

  • Connection: Modbus RTU for integration with Datalogger or SCADA.

  • Installation Guidelines:

    • Mount on Shadow Tracker Sensor arm synchronized with the tracker system.

    • Avoid nearby heat sources for accurate readings.

  • Use Case: Enhances PV system efficiency and prevents energy loss on cloudy/overcast days.
